Peter Walubiri, a top city lawyer in police cells for allegedly trying to harm Uganda People’s Congress [UPC] leader, Jimmy Akena.
Walubiri was picked from Uganda House on Friday and detained at the Special Investigations Unit in Kireka.
His lawyer Abdu Katuntu, told Daily Monitor that Walubiri was arrested “like a chicken thief” after attending a meeting of the party’s National Council at Emerald Hotel in Kampala.
The meeting had been convened by the Olara Otunnu faction before police stormed it and dispersed members.
Walubiri, the chairman of Milton Obote Foundation had gone with former Oyam South MP Issa Otto to Uganda House to organise money to refund delegates who had travelled to Kampala for the meeting.
Walubiri is one of the lawyers who represented Dr Kizza Besigye in his 2006 presidential election petition against President Museveni.
He was accused of trying to harm Akena in the process.
He made a statement at SIU before being detained.
