The President of the Uganda Law Society Mr. Francis Gimara has said that the IGP Gen. Kale Kayihura should step down unless if the investigations into his case are going to be carried out by an outside body.

Gimara says that an institution like Parliament of Uganda can carry out the probing but if it’s the Uganda Police, Kayihura needs to resign since there is a possibility of him using his office to interfere with the results.

The issue of Kayihura stepping aside until investigation completed, follows critics from different people who highlight that his continued stay in office while facing criminal charges defies provisions of the Public Service Standing Orders.

Kayihura and other seven officers are being probed following the court summons over beat Besigye supporters the day he was granted bail last month.
