Kutesa unopposed after rivals quit race

Foreign Affairs Minister, Sam Kutesa has remained unopposed as the Mawogola North county Member of Parliament following the withdrawal of his three rivals from the race.

They are Amon Asiimwe, Noordin Swaibu Kalanda and Deo Kaweesa, all independents.

According to Latif Ngonzi, the Sembabule District Returning Officer the trio communicated to his office their withdrawal from the race.

Ngozi said that the candidates didn’t give reasons for their decision.

He says a result, Kutesa is now unopposed.

Amos Asiimwe quit the race two weeks ago, while Noordin Kalanda and Deo Kaweesa quit on Tuesday this week.

Asiimwe said he had resolved to integrate his ideas with those of Kutesa.

Reports said that the trio was finding it hard to campaign against Kutesa since they don’t have resources.

Deo and Kalanda, however, dismissed claims that they were forced out of the race due to financial constraints.

Sam Kahamba Kutesa (born 1 February 1949) was the president of the sixty-ninth session of the United Nations General Assembly, beginning in September 2014.

He was the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Cabinet of Uganda, a position he held since 13 January 2005 and maintained through two cabinet reshuffles.

He is also the elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Mawogola County in Sembabule District.
