Kobs train for CHAN championships

The Uganda U-23 and CHAN squads had yet another successful training session at the Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo on Sunday morning.

With a joint squad of 44 players, only eight from KCCA FC who trained with their club in the morning could not afford another two-hour vigorous session.

National teams’ head coach Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic was happy with the session and said that effective next weekend separate training sessions will be arranged for the two squads in preparations for their respective engagements.

The Uganda U-23 team is training for the 2016 Africa Olympic qualifiers against the winner on aggregate between Somalia and Rwanda who play in Djibouti later today.

Rwanda won the first leg at home 2-0.

“This was our last joint training session. Next Sunday, we shall separate the players and focus on specific approaches. We shall focus more on the U-23 because their game is soon,” Sredejovic said after the training.

Micho has clearly spelt out training programmes for the U-23, CHAN and the senior Uganda Cranes teams’ Olympic, 2016 Africa Nations Championships and 2017 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers respectively that will come in short successions this year.

Home based Uganda Cranes players play Tanzania in the first round, first leg of the 2016 CHAN qualifiers in Dar es Salaam on June 20.

The return leg is on July 4, at Mandela National stadium, Namboole.

Uganda Cranes play Botswana in the 2017 AFCON game qualifier on June 13, 2015 at Mandela National stadium, Namboole.

Micho said that he is impressed with the players’ enthusiasm at training and urged other stakeholders to demonstrate support for the cause if the country has to qualify for any of the competitions.

In attendance during the turning were Micho’s assistants Moses Basena and Kajob (Cranes) together with Frank ‘Video’ Anyau, Wasswa Bossa and Sadiq Wassa (U-23).

Meanwhile, FUFA communications department has named Kenyi Swalleh as the media officer to be in charge of the two U-23 fixtures coming up for the Kobs.

He will be assisted by Hamza Nsereko.
