Defense Minister Dr. Crispus Kiyonga has retained his seat as Kasese district National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson after he ran unopposed.
The elections were held at the Rwenzori Square in Kasese town on Thursday evening in Dr. Kiyonga’s absence.
Amon Mbusa the NRM district registrar told the district delegates that Dr. Kiyonga could not be subjected to a vote because no one had challenged him for the seat he has held since 2005.
Earlier, Kiyonga was announced the sole NRM candidate for the Bukonzo West parliamentary seat following the withdrawal of his rival from the race.
Capson Sausi withdrew from the NRM primaries and opted to contest as independent saying the party primaries are flawed.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Sausi claimed that there have been a series of events since the beginning of this year aimed at frustrating his candidature.
He accuses the Kasese District NRM party leadership of siding with his rival Kiyonga to frustrate his bid.
Kiyonga is the incumbent Kasese District NRM party chairperson.
