Hon Muwanga Kivumbi says The Democratic Alliance [TDA] confusion was facilitated by President Yoweri Museveni’s dirty cash.
Kivumbi was speaking at the Democratic Party meeting held at Sharing Hall Nsambya on Wednesday.
Kivumbi said only the reasonable person adapts to the world but an unreasonable person doesn’t.
He said DP and Uganda People’s Congress were the biggest problems to the unity of opposition political parties.
“That is why in 2011, we disagreed with DP on Kizza Besigye’s candidature,” he recalled.
Kivumbi said Besigye was his personal friend whom he warned during the (TDA) disagreement.
Besigye was running against Amama Mbabazi for the joint candidate of the coalition ahead of 2016 general elections.
Mbabazi who was on Wednesday endorsed by DP Buganda faction for president had earlier been endorsed by majority parties in the opposition alliance.
However, Besigye disagreed with the choice of Amama saying he was not corruption free and his party had no structures.
Following several disagreements, the alliance broke down.
“If TDA failed to agree on a single candidate, voters can sort them out by ignoring one and work with the other,” Kivumbi said presently.
He added: “I don’t regret supporting Besigye in 2011.”
2011 was the third time Besigye was standing against President Yoweri Museveni in the general elections-which he lost.
Besigye has since been fighting for electoral reforms which he believes will guarantee free and fair elections.
Yet, he recently announced he would stand in 2016 with or without reforms.
According to Kivumbi, Uganda has adequate laws to guarantee free and fair elections.
“We need political reforms,” he emphasised.
He said the opposition took 3 years building the foundation for a coalition.
“We started under the campaign for free and fair reforms,” he noted, saying they could be achieved if opposition put their hearts to it.
