Ugandan runner, Moses Kipsiro, secured his country’s first victory in the men’s Great South Run in Portsmouth with a time of 46:00.

The IAAF Gold Label race took place in Portsmouth and Southsea on England’s south coast early today.

Kipsiro was just 45 seconds short of the Great South Run course record, according to Athletics Weekly.

This marks the third consecutive year African nations have dominated the winners’ medals in Portsmouth, with Pavey having been the last European to disrupt that reign with her victory three years ago.

Kenya’s Emmanuel Bett and Emmanuel Kipsang came second and third, respectively.

There was just 11 seconds separating first and third-place finishers in the men’s contest, with second placed Kipsang clocking a time of 46 minutes and 11 seconds, while Bett  also of Kenya, was three seconds ahead of that.

The women’s race was won by Kenya’s Vivian Cheruiyot, who completed the 10-mile course in 51 minutes and 17 seconds.
