Two officers were shot dead by a gunman in the South Sudan capital Juba on Sunday evening.
They have been identified as 2nd Lieutenant Akok Kuol Akuak, an officer in Close Presidential Protection Unit, and Regimental Sergeant Major of the National Security, Deng Kucdit.
Presidential Press Secretary, Ateny Wek, said the officers were killed on spot.
The gunman also succumbed to gunshot wounds after a shootout with the Millitary Police.
According to Ateny, the motives of the killer are unknown.
He also said that the police have launched an investigation into the murders.
The Close Presidential Protection Unit officer was off duty when he was killed.
The killings happened in Hai Nimra Talata.
Earlier in April, a Lakes State policeman fatally shot six of his colleagues as they returned from a night patrol.
The policeman was killed by another group of policemen.
The official told National Courier that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) was investigating the killing of the six policemen and the execution of their assailant.
