President Salva Kiir has pardoned SPLA-IO forces that he says engaged in fighting with government troops from 7th to 10th of July.
The Republican order says those who took up arms against the Transitional Government of National Unity have been granted amnesty.
President Kiir has issued Presidential Order 18/2016 “granting amnesty to the members of SPLA-IO who took up arms against the Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU) from the 8th to 10th of July, 2016 AD,” according to the Presidential Spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny.
Ateny added that militiamen who are in hiding should go back to their barracks.
A medical officer at Juba military hospital estimates the number of dead from government and opposition forces at 600 soldiers fighting broke out last week.
An earlier count brought the number of dead to 272 people from Friday fighting at J1 presidential palace.
Fighting continued in the capital and outskirts up to Tuesday when President Salva Kiir and his deputy Machar ordered a ceasefire.
