Electoral commission Eng. Badru Kiggundu has apologised for the error in registers uploaded on the EC website that showed an excess of 20,000 voters.
Addressing press at EC offices along Jinja road Friday, Kiggundu admitted the statistical error saying the excess voters had been cleaned out.
Kiggundu said the total number of voters is 15,277,198 only.
He said the 20,000 extra people were cleaned out of the register
“We apologise for the error,” Kiggundu said.
He also said 1800 local observers have been accredited and they will address press on February 15.
He also sounded a final warning for all candidates campaigning beyond the stipulated time.
He said the distribution of voter slips is still on going.
“The slip can only be picked by the owner.”
Kiggundu also noted that while the voter slip and national identity card are initial but are not mandatory for one to vote.
“What is important is being on the national voters register.”
He also displayed the dummy version of the 2016 ballot paper.
