Kidnapped FDC leaders narrates torture ordeal

Vice Chairperson for youth Zeridah Kakayi

Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Vice Chairperson for youth Zeridah Kakayi who was found last month days after she was reported missing has narrated her ordeal.
Kakayi is said to have gone missing on May11 after attending prayers at Christ the king church in the center of Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
In a televised interview with a local TV station, Kakayi said she suffered serious torture by her kidnappers.
She said that on the fateful day, she was waylaid by unknown assailants, forcefully bundled into an unidentified Ipsum vehicle before she was drugged and driven to unknown places in Northern Uganda by her assailants.
“I was taken to Acholi sub-region in Northern Uganda where I was held for several days in a grass thatched house and tortured. I was just lucky that I wasn’t raped by my kidnappers,” Kakayi said.
After being held captive and tortured for day, she was reportedly dumped at Aswa Bridge that connects Pader and Gulu districts and that’s whre she was found by some good Samaritans.
She was then brought back to Kampala admitted to Naguru Hospital with serious injuries occasioned to her by her assailants.
Kakayi is just one of the many FDC leaders and supporters who went missing during FDC former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye’s defiance campaigns through weekly prayers.
Others leaders singled out by FDC party spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda as missing then included FDC deputy secretary general for Administration Harold Kaija and Boniface Okori, a guard at the FDC headquarters.
But police spokesperson Fred Enanga at the time told journalists that the Force were not holding any FDC members but “thugs”.
He said they arrested 80 at President Yoweri Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony at Kololo, 50 on Jinja Road and others from a show at Uganda Manufacturing Association.
