Police chief Kale Kayihura has said he will not sit back and let opposition leader Kizza Besigye disturb the country’s peace.
Kayihura made the pledge on Thursday while addressing journalists at police headquarters in Naguru.
“Dr Kizza Besigye doesn’t have clean hands. How can you have clean hands when you are defying the law?”
After being released from prison over treason, Besigye vowed to resume defiance activities saying he has a right to fight for people’s freedom.
But the police chief insists he will not allow that to happen.
“We shall not allow Kizza Besigye to carry on with his defiance campaign. This one I can tell you,” Kayihura swore.
He said it was the duty of the police to maintain law and order asking media not to demonise the force.
“Media has been compromised by the opposition,” he said without explaining the allegation.
