The Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura has revealed that police is holding Forum for Democratic Change head of mobilisation Ingrid Turinawe.
Ingrid went missing on Sunday afternoon after men in military and police uniform picked her from Gayaza trading centre in Wakiso district.
FDC said in a statement that she had been kidnapped and opened a search for her on social media.
Kayihura told press at the Police Headquarters in Naguru that Ingrid was in police custody.
He said she was arrested and not kidnapped as alleged.
“Yes we have arrested her. We have evidence she is involved in a number of crimes.”
Together with FDC deputy secretary general Harold Kaija who was arrested at the party head offices along Entebbe road, Ingrid will be charged and produced in courts of law.
He said Kaija’s file too will be handed over to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Kayihura said the Criminal Investigations Department [CID] was still musing on the charges to bring against the opposition officials.
He said other opposition officials including Kizza Besigye, Wafula Oguttu, Erias Lukwago and Semujju Nganda are only being placed under precautionary measures not to cause violence.
“Opposition figures should be law-abiding otherwise the law will catch up with them.”
Kayihura said these figures are plotting to disrupt President Yoweri Museveni’s swearing in ceremony slated for May 12, 2016 at Kololo.
