Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura has spoken on the 12 armed criminals who attacked Gulu police barracks last evening.
The gang which he likened to Kifeesi criminals attacked the station with a vehicle which was later captured by police.
During the attack, one UPDF officer Corporal Moses Odema was killed, four soldiers were injured and two policemen injured too.
In the crossfire, a civilian driving near station was also injured.
They were later hospitalised at the military hospital.
Kayihura says he believes guns used in Gulu attack last night are the same as those taken from Opit LDU detach in Gulu last month.
“Uganda is peaceful and stable, despite Gulu Central Police Station attack. The culprits fled but we have the vehicle that they used,” Kayihura told press at police headquarters in Naguru on Monday.
He said the attackers left behind six AK47s, one machine gun, more than 200 rounds of ammunition plus bows and arrows.
Kayihura said the attack was meant to rescue one of the arrested criminals in the district but failed.
