Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura, has refuted some media reports asserting that the ongoing killings are done by Al Shabaab.
Gen. Kayihura says that the killings are fueled by organised criminal groups who want to distort peace in the country.
During his meeting with the business community today 1st. 04.2015 at Protea Hotel Kampala.
The Inspector General of Police assured the business fraternity that Uganda is safe and secure despite the unfortunate tragedies.
Further the General Kayihura asked for increased vigilance among the business community being vulnerable to crime.
IGP has said that he is worried of the recent phenomenal of fear to help when trouble is sketched in the community.
“Lately people no longer respond to alarms yet we cannot have police everywhere, every time due to the number of policemen the country has compared to the population”.
He has asked for popular vigilance and involvement of the public in fighting crime.
Kayihura’s comments follow the killing of a State Attorney, Joan Kagezi.
Kagezi was killed in Kiwatule, a Kampala suburb by unknown gunmen (now suspected to be ADF rebels) on Monday.
On the same day, a mobile money agent was shot in Bunamwaya.
Other similar killings have been ongoing across the country.
