The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura has extoled Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni for defending him and other officers in uniform following the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)’s Kizza Besigye’s supporters beating saga.
The day Besigye was released on bail over two months ago over treason charges, police meted violence against his supporters who following him.
Police actions were widely criticised with some of the then including the police boss Kayihura being dragged to court to answer charges of torture against Ugandans.
Kayihura was summoned by Makindye Magistrates Court but has since snubbed the court summonses while some of his juniors on the other hand are being tried by Police’s Disciplinary court based in Naguru.
During the pass-put ceremony of cadet officers and police constables at Police Training School in Kabalye in Masindi District at the weekend, Kayihura said ” We thank you (Museveni) in a special way for standing up for us at a critical moment when we were under attack,” said General Kayihura.
More than 3,000 police constables and cadets were passed out.
