The Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura, has dismissed all crime intelligence officers within the Kampala Metropolitan Area over laziness.
Kayihura accuses the officers for failing to curb crime in the city.
He made the announcement while meeting police commanders and leaders of Crime Preventers to brainstorm on issues that are a challenge to the force.
“Visibility of the police is the most important,” Kayihura told the cops.
“Why is it [police] not working?” Do you want me to patrol at night when there is a station Officer-in-Charge [OC] and a District Police Commander [DPC]?”
“I don’t want laziness,” the police chief continued, visibly angry, reminding the cops that the country expects much from them.
“I will not accept the continuous attacking of citizens on your watch.”
H said police bosses were going to sit down and restudy the situation.
“I have suspended quite a number of officers as we investigate,” he announced.
Kayihura said he would not wait but will get people who can do the work that is, protect and serve the country.
As for the fate of the dismissed officers, Kayihura said they are going to be investigated and those implicated will face disciplinary action while the others will be reinstated if found innocent.
