Kayihura and senior district officials address Kitgum residents at Boma grounds

The Inspector General of police Kale Kayihura has met with residents and senior officers from Kitgum over the recent insecurity issues.

On Tuesday, gunmen shot dead Tony Olanya, a former Uganda Revenue Authority employee at his home in Ayul A, Pager Division.
A week before, they shot dead Grace Ageno, a former judicial official and former municipality Councillor for Greenland Parish in Pager Division.

Since the year started, gunmen have killed at least six people in the district.

Kayihura who flew to Kitgum on Wednesday has promised locals at Kitgum Boma Grounds that the Police Flying Squad will be sent to the district to curb gun violence.

On Wednesday, locals staged a demonstration protesting the incompetence of the District Police Commander Jackson Baryampika and the Resident District Commissioner William Komakech.

Kayihura thus apologised for the inability of police to protect citizens and their property in the area.

He extended his condolences to the families of the deceased but pledged to protect the rest of the community by hunting down the thugs responsible.
