Polly Namaye, the ACP Press and Public Relations has welcomed the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police, Andrew Felix Kaweesi, as the Public Relations Officer caretaker.
Kaweesi replaces former police spokesperson Fred Enanga who has been away for a two-week course in China.
Kaweesi will speak for the police force in addition to his role as the Police Human Resource director.
Kaweesi’s deployment to this position is notable, as he becomes the highest ranked police officer to ever sit in the spokesperson role.
Usually a police department is headed by an officer at the rank of commissioner yet Kaweesi is a director.
Namaye said in a statement that Kaweesi will act in that capacity in addition to other tasks that he has been performing.
“Before this appointment which commenced yesterday 21.08.2016, he has been very supportive of the department of Public Relations,” Namaye said.
She added: “So, let me take this opportunity to welcome him on board.”
Namaye, Enanga and Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson are all going for further training.
In March, Kaweesi was reappointed Kampala Metropolitan Zonal Police Commander.
This came a year after he was transferred to head the Human Resource Department.
Kaweesi once served as Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander before being appointed AIGP Director of operations.
