The Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma, has summoned Opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye and Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] party to appear in court today for the hearing of an interim application.
The document was signed on Monday, 30 May, 2016 and was served to FDC officials yesterday, Wednesday, 1st June, 2016.
It aims at extending the ban on their defiance campaign activities on the expiry of the earlier four weeks interim order ban since April.
Justice Kavuma will preside over today’s hearing at 3pm at the Constitutional Court in Kampala.
In his affidavit sworn yesterday, Police chief Gen Kale Kayihura, declared defiance campaign unconstitutional and illegal.
Kayihura claims unless court issues another ban stopping FDC defiance campaign activities, the country will go back into political unrest.
The ban extends to Tuesday weekly prayers and any countrywide demonstrations demanding for an independent audit of 2016 elections.
Yesterday, Kayihura claimed there was intelligence that FDC supporters would sow chaos at Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court where Besigye was due for the mention of his treason case.
The Director of Public Prosecutions Mike Chibita sought for a trial at Luzira prisons, which would not pose any security risks.
