The four terrorism suspects that were arrested in Kasese district yesterday have been transferred to police headquarters in Kampala.
The four men were arrested at Nyakasanga along the Kasese-Fort portal road aboard a Prado vehicle with Kenyan number plates – KAS 777R.
At the time of the arrest, the vehicle was heading to the Mpondwe border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Bakari Muga, the Rwenzori Regional Police spokesperson, told Uganda Radio Network last night that the four men, who are suspected to be members of the Somali terrorist group Al Shabaab, have been transferred to Kampala for interrogation.
Their vehicle remains grounded at the Kasese central police station.
They include three Kenyans and one Congolese National.
Security is heightened along the common border with the DRC, a country that has for years harbored the training camps of the Allied Democratic Forces a rebel group.
Muga said that there is need for vigilance among the residents of Kasese and Bundibugyo whose borders are targeted by the ADF rebels in case they plan to carry out terror attacks on Uganda.
