City businessman Matthew Kanyamunyu and other suspects in the death of social worker Kenneth Akena did not appear in court as expected.
Kanyamunyu, his girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari and his brothers; Joseph and Moses Kanyamunyu were today (Monday ) expected to appear in Nakawa Chief Magistrates court to answer charges of murder as sanctioned by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) but in vain.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima said police had sent their file to DPP Mike Chibita for sanctioning adding that their investigations were still ongoing.
However, there were unverified reports that relatives to the suspects had asked court to sit in the absence of journalists.
Journalists camped at court from morning till late in the evening when court business closed.
Another source at court told this reporter that Kanyamunyu’s lawyers had appeared at the registrar’s office and tried to apply for unconditional bail but they were thrown. However, our reporter could not verify this information.
Akena was shot on the evening of November 12 at Lugogo after he allegedly scratched Matthew’s car. He died moments after Matthew and his girlfriend took him to hospital.
In his dying declaration, Akena said he had been shot by the people who rushed him to the hospital.
Police said the killer gun is still missing.
