Wife to opposition leader Kizza Besigye has said the new minister for Kampala Capital City Authority [KCCA], Beti Kamya, has been working against opposition for four years now.
Kamya was appointed by President Yoweri Museveni in the new cabinet, a move that shocked many.
Museveni had earlier praised Kamya for contributing to the development of the country in various ways.
Speaking on her appointment, Kamya said she was the right person to handle Kampala because she is calm and has good management skills.
Winnie Byanyima agrees Kamya should have been rewarded with this position a long time ago.
“I’ll put it simply; Kamya has been working against opposition 4 years,” Winnie said, adding, “She should have been rewarded by NRM long ago.”
She said for example, there should be no cause for a clash between Kamya and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.
“Kamya serves in a central government’s agency. Lukwago is elected to lead a local government. Difference is real.”
Lukwago has already warned Kamya not to tamper with his job if she doesn’t need a fight.
Winnie who denied working with opposition said she only supports social justice causes.
“Some politicians pursue social justice. I find common cause with them.”
She agreed with Democratic Party president Norbert Mao who remarked that Uganda is a country that is deeply divided, hurting and is badly in need of healing.
