Speaker Rebecca Kadaga’s visit to the Shrines is a mockery of God, former ethics minister Miria Matembe has said.
Two days after she was declared winner of the highly contested speaker for the 10th Parliament, Kadaga visited her village to give thanks her ancestors for retaining her two seats in parliament- both as the Kamuli district woman MP and the speaker of the 10th Parliament.
Kadaga was recorded in a video performing some rituals in what her clan elders described as appeasing the spirits. She also left there unspecified amount of money.
However, in a televised interview on NBS TV this morning, Matembe, women rights activists said Kadaga is not the first leader to visit the shrine of witch doctors.
“When president Museveni was launching his campaign, he also first met witch doctors before meeting bishops in Kololo,” said Matembe.
According to her, it is wrong for leaders to hold the Holy bible and at the same time visit the shrine or deal with witch doctors.
“How can our leaders raise the bible while wearing and the next minute run to shrines? It’s a mockery and God is angry. My stomach was even shaking when I saw Kadaga kneel before those rocks,” she said.
