The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has reaffirmed the need to regulate the use of commercial motorcycles along major highways as one of the solutions to curbing road carnage.
Kadaga who visited the Nakaseke District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Rose Namayanja at Nakasero Hospital, Thursday, 22nd October 2015 said untrained riders have become a threat to the lives of many road users.
“We need to regulate the operations of boda – boda riders. They have been given too much freedom yet their operations have resulted into the loss of their lives and many other road users have also been victim,” she told journalists.
Hon. Namayanja, the NRM Treasurer and former Minister for Information and National Guidance was involved in a nasty accident on the Kampala –Gulu Highway on Tuesday this week.
The Speaker expressed optimism that MP Namayanja would be out of hospital in a couple of days following her quick recovery from surgery.
“Iam relieved that you’re alive. When I saw the wreckage of the car, I thought no one walked out alive. It’s amazing that you are out of danger,” Kadaga added.
Nakasero Hospital’s Dr. Isaac Kajja confirmed to journalists at the MPs bedside that she had undergone successful surgery on the right lower limb and the right thigh bone which got fractured during the accident.
“The medical team is happy that the patient is recovering steadily. She is able to conduct minimal business. We wanted her to be hospitalized for two weeks but the rate of improvement is tremendous,” he said.
