The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, has launched the campaign for the 2nd Edition of Twegaite Source of the Nile Run to take place on 23rd July 2016.
While addressing the press at the Uganda Media Centre on Thursday, 30th June 2016, the Speaker said the run was intended to fundraise for development initiatives, including education and promotion of tourism.
“The proceeds from the run will be used to build schools, purchase books for students, promote cancer awareness, develop tourism sites and fund initiatives towards the fight against cancer,” Kadaga said.
“There will be an exhibition at Entebbe Zoo and we will launch one of the 35 tourism sites with the support of the Uganda Tourism Board. I urge you to come and see the animals at the Zoo,” she added.
Kadaga said there is tendency for Ugandans not to take some time off to visit the wonderful tourists sites in Uganda or go to the zoo, adding that the opportunity is now here for Ugandans to do so.
She thanked Twegaite International Organisation, Uganda Tourism Board and all the other partners who have joined the cause to support the development of Busoga region.
Hon. Moses Balyeku (NRM, Jinja West) applauded the Speaker for supporting the increase in the budget for tourism and invited the public to participate and promote tourism in Busoga.
The second edition of the run follows the first run, which took place in Minnesota in the United States on 23rd May 2015. The purpose of the run was to promote awareness of cancer in Busoga and rehabilitate the cancer unit in Jinja Hospital.
