Kadaga, Baba clash over Besigye house arrest

The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga Thursday ordered the Internal Affairs Minister, James Baba, to produce a full statement on opposition leader Kizza Besigye’s continued house arrest.

MPs Barnabas Tinkasimire and Beatrice Anywar who demanded a detailed explanation as to why Besigye’s home in Kasangati was still occupied by police moved Kadaga who chaired the plenary.

Tinkasimire tasked government to explain the exact law Besigye has broken so far to accrue to a home detention.

In response, Baba to the house [despite of Kadaga’s orders] that police will remain at Besigye’s home.

He said the force would only be withdrawn if Besigye denounces his defiance campaign.

Government deputy spokesperson, Col Shaban Bantariza, earlier said police chief Kale Kayihura was in talks with Besigye who they expected to drop his defiance campaign.

Instead FDC announced another campaign in which they would stay home on Thursdays and go for prayers on Tuesdays.

So far, this Thursday, FDC officials and supporters stayed in their homes.
