Opposition leader Kizza Besigye has lashed at what he termed as an unjust Uganda justice system.
“The Justice system is not judged on what happens to Besigye. It is a justice system for all,” he said while appearing on KFM “Hot Seat” programme Thursday.
“We have a justice system that holds people on remand for 7 years. They have no bail.”
Besigye said what is happening to the Judiciary is not unique saying they have done better than other depts.
” Once you are under a dictatorship, power is monopolised. All institutions are taken over. Institutions struggle to different extents. Some were renewed others were installed. E.g Police, it was an intense struggle, they have now taken over by military. That is what you see now.”
He said the Judiciary have put up a fight.
“You do not get captured unless you have been fighting. The military has come to occupy the high court. They had to lay down their tools.”
Most of the judicial officers have been installed, appointed by the dictatorship and the patronage system controls them, Besigye pointed out.
“Ask Justice Ogoola about the Judicial Service Commission. The whole system is not compliant, that is why I have written to the Justices.”
Besigye said he has written against Justice Kavuma because there is the effectiveness of the Judiciary which is weak.
Addressing press on Wednesday, Besigye lashed at the police institution for being incompetent.
He said with all it’s guns, brutality and teargas, police has failed to contain him.
Besigye said he has severally managed to beat police surveillance and storm the city centre.
