Jailed former Kampala Central Police Station DPC Aron Baguma on Thursday failed to appear in court as expected for further mention of the murder and aggrevated robbery charges against him.
On Tuesday this week Baguma pleaded with court to remand him to Kigo government prisons instead of Luzira Maximum security prisons.
Baguma through his lawyer said those he arrested are on remanded in Luzira and therefore it would be terrible for him to be remanded in the same prison.
Consequently, the presiding Grade One Magistrate Joan Acio of Buganda Road Court allowed his request ordering him to return to court today for further mention of the case.
However, Baguma did not show up but Kigo prison officials told court that he was sick and under treatment.
The magistrate then issued a production warrant ordeering the prison officials to produce him in court in September 6 for further mention.
Baguma’s charges are in relation to the alleged killing of businesswoman Betty Katusabe at Pine car bond in Kampala on October 21, 2015.
Shortly after Baguma was remanded, relatives of Katusabe petitioned the Director of Public Prosecution asking him not to prosecute Baguma whom they said had been “very helpful in the case” and ensuring that their deceased daughter gets justice.
According to them, prosecuting Baguma would stall the case and therefore their daughter might not get the justice that she deserves.
