Jacqueline Mbabazi, wife to former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, will not seek re-election as NRM Women League Chairperson.
According to emerging reports, Jacqueline is tired of the ruling party which her husband says has veered off the course of the principles upon which it was founded.
In one of the ugliest episodes early this year, Jacqueline was locked outside a Kampala meeting by her second-in-command, Suzan Muhwezi, only to be saved by President Yoweri Museveni.
The iron lady is also in bad books with police especially after IGP Kale Kayihura recorded her in the infamous spy tapes soliciting support for her husband to stand in 2016 general elections.
In NRM party meetings, Jacqueline was also quoted challenging Museveni and pointing out his errors to his face.
The president was once quoted telling Mbabazi that he had failed to control his wife and her sisters who were abusing him on social media.
Just last week, Jacqueline and her sister, Hope Mwesigye were summoned for a CEC sub-committee meeting which they refused to attend.
Speculation is that they face dismissal from the party.
With this background, say insiders, Jacqueline has lost faith in the ruling party and sees no reason for occupying any leadership position anymore.
She is also sceptical of the NRM Electoral process which has in many cases been portrayed as flawed.
Jacqueline has made it a point not to pick nomination forms and shows no interest whatsoever in pushing for a re-election.
We were unable to reach the family for a comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, her husband, too has not yet picked forms for the party chairman and presidential flag bearer positions.
His rival, Museveni has already picked his but Amama says he will not pay the Shs 20m required by NRM EC chairman, Tanga Odoi.
Tanga said NRM has collected over Shs 2.5bn so far in nomination fees which Amama thinks is wrong and illegal.
