President Yoweri Museveni has commended Italian investor, Ms Enrica Pinnet, for the proposed specialized hospital that is due to be constructed in Lubowa, in the suburbs of Kampala.
“It will be a specialized hospital for complicated diseases which attack body organs like liver, the heart, brain or kidney most common among the middle income people,” he said.
The President was speaking shortly after visiting the Bergamo Hospital which is going to be collaborating with the International Hospital that will be built in Kampala, Uganda.
Bergamo Hospital is one of the State of the art Hospitals in Italy and will be training Ugandan medical staff especially in super specialized areas such as transplant, Neurosurgery, oncology (Cancer treatment) and cardiology (hearts Surgery).
The Hospital offered four scholarships of Masters degree in Oncology, Neurosurgery, Kidney transplant and Acute Care to Uganda and training is expected to begin next year.
In addition, more 30 medical staff will be attached to Bergamo Hospital for apprenticeship for 3-6 months as Uganda Hospital is undergoing construction.
The President said that in addition, the country has 1300 health units that deal with other illnesses but this venture will be welcome for specialized cases.
According to reports, the Bergamo Hospital medical experts will initially manage the Ugandan Hospital till Uganda builds full capacity to manage the highly super-specialized sector.
The construction of the International Specialized Hospital in Uganda begins next year and it is expected to be operational in 2018.
