“There is a time for everything and in Uganda it is time for change,” Amama Mbabazi told crowds that gathered to listen to him at Booma grounds in Kapchorwa town.
He said his presidential bid will be for a short time and he will not benefit from it but is doing it for the young people in Uganda.
Mbabazi started his speech with the poor state of the Kapchorwa road saying he had noted that the people lack proper infrastructure.
“When I become president I will build infrastructure for modern Uganda.”
He continued: “:I came here because I have a dream of becoming president. I want to be president because I think it’s time for change.”
He said although the country has achieved a great deal, there is still a lot more to be done and that it was time for the old generation to hand over to a new one.
“This whole stretch is the agricultural hub of Uganda, you have capacity to grow enough wheat for whole of Uganda.”
He promised not to betray the people’s trust once he becomes president.
More than 20 candidates of the Go Forward Team announced they would stand for the various posts they will be vying for in 2016.
Meanwhile, some ruling NRM and opposition FDC party members surrendered their cards to the Go Forward Team in Kapchorwa.
