Moroto Central Prison inmate has been beaten to death by fellow inmate in a brawl over opposition leader Kizza Besigye.
The deceased was identified as Michael Lodia.
Lodia was killed on Friday about four hours after Besigye was remanded to the same facility on treason charges by the Moroto Chief Magistrates Court presided over by Charles Yepeise.
In the cell, a scuffle started between the prisoners who support the ruling party and those who support Besigye.
While the inmates who support opposition were excited to see Besigye, Lodia, an NRM supporter tried to mingle with alleged “negative energy”.
An argument ensued leading to a stampede.
The hubbub ended with Lodia being thumped until he breathed his last.
The crowded government prison hosts about 170 inmates with squalid conditions.
