Scores are reported injured in a titanic clash between supporters of Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire and Rtd. Capt. Donozio Kahonda.
The ugly scenes took place in Kashenshero sub county Mitooma district Tuesday as Kahonda, the NRM flag bearer carried on his campaigns for the Ruhinda constituency MP seat.
Initial reports say supporters of the Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister who is contesting on an Independent ticket, blocked Kahonda near Kashenshero.
About 25 people are said to have been injured in the clashes including two policemen.
The injured were rushed to supporters Kashenshero health centre for treatment.
Kahonda accuses Kahinda of unleashing his body guards to beat his [Kahonda’s] supporters, a charge the minister dismissed.
Last month, six supporters of Otafiire were on injured in a fight with those of Mitooma District Woman MP Jovah Kamateeka and Benon Karyaija, the LC5 chairman.
Gen Otafiire’s supporters were travelling from Kashasha to Rutembe in Kabira Sub-county when they ran into supporters of Karyaija and Kamateeka at Omukareere trading centre in Rurehe Sub-county and the fight ensued.
Kamateeka and Karyaija are also NRM flag bearers for the LC5 and Woman MP seats together with Capt. Donozio Kahonda who trounced Gen. Otafiire in NRM primaries.
