Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze has spokesperson out on her presidential ambitions and current health status.
Nambooze who recently returned from South Africa where she had gone for an operation was Tuesday appearing in NBS TV morning breeze.
Nambooze said never in her six years as MP has she asked to go abroad for treatment but this time, she had to travel.
At Mulago, the one machine that was needed to carry out tests given her condition had broken down two years ago.
“The medical board claimed I hadn’t exhausted the local options but what are those options? Pr Kakande? Maama Fiina?”
She demanded that the medical board comes out and clearly explain the process of clearing those traveling abroad.
“Medical board should provide a list of the Ugandans who benefit from the UGX377bn we spend per annum on treatment abroad.”
Nambooze raised the money for her treatment abroad from her own pocket and from friends.
“Is it because I’m not an NRM sympathizer? My intestines were failing but medical board didn’t clear me yet a colleague’s relative w/ malaria was cleared!”
She added: “This medical tourism is not good. We spend UGX377b per year. I am not proud that I travelled abroad. Medical tourism is not sustainable. What is sustainable is us working on our hospitals.”
Nambooze also said the idea of a female Ugandan president is not far-fetched.
“If you are an MP and you don’t consider yourself presidential material, you have no business being there.”
