A Democratic Party faction led by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has opened its first office in Luweero Town Council.
This was one of the activities undertaken by the group which boycotted the national delegate’s conference that took place at Katomi Kingdom Resort, Wakiso yesterday.
Lukwago, accompanied by hundreds of DP enthusiasts entered Luweero at around 2:30pm amidst pomp.
He was accompanied by MPs; Latif Ssebaggala, Ssebuliba Mutumba, Mathias Mpuuga and Moses Kasibante among other enthusiasts.
In his brief speech, Lukwago said that yesterday’s events marked the start of efforts to save DP from slipping into oblivion and cause fundamental change ahead of the 2016 general election.
He said the office located at Bwabye road off Kampala-Gulu highway will coordinate campaigns and DP activities in Katikamu North Constituency and Luweero district.
The leader of splinter DP group Erias Lukwago says that they are in struggle to liberate the country not to tussle for party positions.
While addressing a large crowd at Kataka Playground in Wobulenzi town council on Friday, the Kampala City Lord Mayor said that Ugandans should not be discouraged by current wrangles in Democratic Party but support the change which is about to come.
He explained that those who want DP Party positions are free to sit in resorts and elect themselves. It was a reference to the DP delegates conference that sat at Katomi Kingdom Resort in Entebbe.
Lukwago says his group is more interested in rallying the masses to demand and participate in bringing change in 2016.
