The trial of police officers and commanders accused of beating up supporters of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) former presidential candidate gains momentum in the police disciplinary court, the Force’s boss General Kale Kayihura has decided to transfer some of them.
Kayihura, has ejected the commander of Kampala Metropolitan Police, Abbas Byakagaba, and his deputy Stephen Tanui and senior officers.
According to the transfer letter issued on Tuesday, Gen. Kayihura replaced Byakagaba with Frank Mwesigwa, who has been the commandant of Police Training School-Kabalye Masindi District.
Mwesigwa will also be deputised by Ezekiel Emitu, who has been the deputy commandant of the same school.
Byakagaba and Tanui have been sent to Senior Command and Staff College as Commandant and deputy commandant respectively.
Gen. Kayihura also suspended Andrew Kaggwa, who has been the commander of Kampala Metropolitan Police South pending conclusion of the disciplinary proceedings in which he is accused of beating Dr Besigye supporters using sticks, an act that reportedly tainted the police image.
Samuel Bamuzibire has also been suspended from the Kampala Metropolitan Police Field Force Unit commander, Moses Nanoka from Wandegeya Division police command as well as Patrick Muhumuza, the KMP South operations commander while Aaron Baguma, the commander of Kampala Central Police Station has been replaced by Joseph Bakaleke.
