Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi has accused police for the increased road carnage in the country.
According to Mafabi who also doubles as the Budadiri West MP, there are a number of drivers on the road without driving permits yet police does not take the onus to check them.
“Most of the drivers of government vehicles are not qualified. But because the vehicles have government number plates, police does not even bother to check them. This is why we have endless accidents on our roads,” he said.
He added that even right of way is abused by government officials under police watch.
“I stay in Kyambogo but we have problems of traffic jam. I was on the road and then a car came hooting asking me to leave the road because a big man was coming. I told my driver not to give way. And then a traffic officer came to my car and when he saw me, he backed off. In the car that had escorts and hooting, there was State minister designate for water, Hon. Ronald Kibuule. I was going to slap him,” said Mafabi on Saturday in an interview with Capital FM.
According to Mafabi, Shs5 trillion has been given to UNRA in the last nine years but only quarter of that has reportedly been used in road construction.
“The rest of the money was stolen by people who were in charge,” he said.
