Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has appealed to government to clear his outstanding salary amounting to Shs560m.
The money in question has accumulated over the years since 2013 when he was in the last term locked out of his office at the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).
“Government owes me Shs560m which it hasn’t paid for the last three years,” said Lukwago in a televised interview with NTV.
According to him, president Yoweri Museveni’s government which has been in power for more than 30years years does not care about the welfare of Ugandans.
“Their main preoccupation how for them to entrench in power for more years.
The system has totally broken down,” he said.
Lukwago was in his last term of office locked out of office for three years after was reportedly impeached by KCCA councillors.
But Justice Catherine Bamugemereire ruled that Lukwago was never impeached and ordered for his return to office.
Government appealed against the case and it was never heard until this year when New mayoral elections were held in the recently concluded elections.
Lukwago however emerged winner after beating singer Daniel Kazibwe commonly known as Raggae Dee.
