Outgoing Electoral Commission Chairman Dr Eng. Badru Kiggundu says he doesn’t have a personal vendetta against former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye and therefore is not responsible for his four times lose in the presidential race.
“Whether Besigye likes me or dislikes me, I don’t have any hatred for him. Infact I like him,” said Dr Kiggundu.
Dr Besigye has on several occasions accused Dr Kiggundu of conniving with President Yoweri Museveni to deny him victor in the four presidential races he has participated.
Speaking to NBS on Monday, Dr Kiggundu said he met Dr Besigye face to face only twice.
“I first met Besigye at parliament and then when he was coming for vetting for the 2016 presidential race,” added Kiggundu.
Eng. Kiggundu said because of undying loyalty and love for Uganda, he had to part away from jobs paying him highly in 1988 to serve his country.
On free and fair elections, Dr Kiggundu said: “Free and fair elections are in the eyes of the beholder.”
President Museveni last week appointed a new electoral commission head by Justice Simon Byabakama to replace that of Dr Kiggundu whose term of office expired on November 17.
