Gunmen on Sunday abducted two children in Amudat Bukwo district.
According to Dison Onyigi, the Deputy Mt. Moroto Regional Police Commander, the abductors were dressed in Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces-UPDF Uniform and civilian clothes.
Onyigi told Uganda Radio Network Cherop, 12, and his brother Geoffrey Chebet, 18, a senior two student of Namang Senior Secondary School in Bukwo district, were abducted at Lokales village in Karita Sub County in Amudat district, about 186 kilometers South of Moroto town.
The abductees are children of Martin Kabukubeyo, a local gold miner and resident of Toropa village, Alalam parish in Riwo Sub County in Bukwo district.
Kabukubeyo has been arrested to help police with investigations.
Kabukubeyo told police that gunmen intercepted him on his way to Karita for business before taking his children hostage.
A joint team of police and UPDF officers is combing Mt. Elgon game reserve to rescue the abductees.
This comes after gunmen raided Kapchorwa Central Police Station killing a police officer and making away with guns.
Two groups; Save Uganda Now (SUN) and Uganda Saving Force (USF) have since claimed responsibility.
