In the early hours of Wednesday, June 15, 2016, armed criminals and bandits attacked SPLA’s defensive positions in Raga town.
Brig. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, the SPLA Spokesperson, SPLA GHQs-Bilpam told Insider the attackers had been repulsed.
He said the national army was carrying out mopping up operations is ongoing.
“However, it’s good to mention that SPLA and SPLA IO’s resolve to fully implement the peace agreement is being put to test by enemies of peace.”
Koang said SPLA IO top military leadership agreed to fight alongside SPLA forces against anti-peace elements.
“Finally, SPLA would like to assure the people of South Sudan that it has ability and capability to defeat armed criminals and bandits currently against the implement of peace agreement and reconciliation.”
Armed attacks and rebel activities were also reported in central Equatoria state where SPLA clashed with rebels allied to the current first vice president over the weekend.
The attack left over 20 soldiers dead from both sides as well as three civilians who were caught in the cross fire.
