In the wee hours of Friday morning, armed men launched a raid on a military barracks in Gulu district and reportedly killed several soldiers.
According to a source in the area, gunmen attacked Opit military barracks in Lakwana sub county Gulu district early Friday with the intention of taking guns.
The source claimed several soldiers lost their lives in the attack.
He also said the gunmen managed to seize guns and ammunition from the soldiers.
The UPDF 4th Division army spokesperson, Lt. Ahmad Hassan Kato, has told the state-run New Vision that one soldier was killed and eight guns stolen.
This comes a few days after gunmen kidnapped simon Toolit who contested on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket for the post of MP against the National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s Jacob Oulanyah.
It is alleged that Toolit who recently petitioned court contesting Deputy Speaker Oulanyah’s victory went missing from his home in Gulu Municipality.
According to relatives, Toolit was kidnapped in the wee hours of Wednesday morning by armed gunmen.
Toolit was expected to appear in court for hearing of his case after Oulanyah refused to appear in court the last time their case was in court.
