Guard wanted for shooting dead Indian boss

Last Thursday, 3rd, December, 2015, at around 9.20p.m, a security guard attached to Billard Security Company Limited, identified as Baraza Fred, while on static guard duties at Grow More Seeds and Chemicals Company Limited, located at Plot 21, Luthuli Avenue, Bugolobi, attacked and shot dead, his Indian Boss, Sanjeev Ira, the Managing Director, of the company, within the compound premises.

The guard fired a single shot, to the shoulder of the victim, seriously wounding him, and left him unconscious.

He further placed the shamba boy, who had responded to the gunshot, and robbed him of Uganda Shillings 10.000/=, plus a mobile phone which he threw over the fence, to prevent him from instantly reporting the incident.

The Police at Bugolobi Police Post responded upon receiving a shot fired call at around 9.40p.m, and within 10 minutes, rushed the victim to the International Hospital Kampala (IHK), where he was later pronounced dead.

CP Fred Enanga, the Press and Public Relations Officer Uganda Police, says the Police are conducting an extensive search for the suspect, who originates from the eastern district of Busia, but is still believed to be hiding within the Kampala city area and the surrounding districts.

The preliminary investigations indicate the killing as not being a race motivated assault, but more of a random crime of opportunity that was committed.

“We are deeply saddened by this very tragic and unfortunate incident, carried out on an innocent Indian businessman, for which, we have put a lot of resources into tracing the known culprit, for arrest and prosecution.”

“We want to urge the public, and in particular the Indian business community, to remain calm and not jump to conclusions about any racial aspect to the crime, and to continue being vigilant in their day to day activities.”
