Cabinet met on 30th September 2015, and considered the issue of delays in the payment of pensions and gratuity and agreed on practical steps to ensure speedy action.
Cabinet regretted the disruption of pension payments that were already ongoing, and noted that the main reason is the transition from centralized pension payment system to a decentralized one.
“Because of the change in the payment system, there have been delays in the verification process, which is now being addressed,” said Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda in a statement.
Cabinet noted that special arrangements have been put in place with the intention to clear the disrupted payments by Mid October 2015.
A team of officers from the Ministry of Public Service has been dispatched to support Ministries, Departments, Agencies and Local Governments with the verification exercise.
As regards those who have not accessed the Pension Pay Roll or are entitled to Ex-Gratia payments, Government is making efforts to find funds so that these deserving Ugandans also receive their payments.
“Government requests the affected people to bear with it as it handles the matter.”
