Government is to spend a total of 5.8billion on organising local council elections Election Commission has said.

EC Chairperson, Badru Kiggundu today announced that they are now ready to organize local council one two elections.

According to him, the exercise which starts on 11 May 2016 will end on May 31 with the polling day for local government residual elections and tallying of results. The election will cover local council 1 and 2.

In March, EC spokesperson Jotham Taremwa, the Local council elections process had delayed by the parliamentary amendment to the Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2014, which cut down on the funds for elections by allowing the system of lining up.

Meanwhile, Kiggundu said ballot papers will be used contrary to the lining up as earlier proposed.
