Government has asked court to issue an order compelling authorities at Luzira prison to produce jailed former Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate Kizza Besigye to appear in Kabale court.
On Monday, Kabale senior resident State Attorney Batson Baguma applied for a production warrant for Dr Besigye who is currently jailed at Luzira prison Kampala to appear in Kabale court in Western Uganda to answer charges of inciting violence and malicious damage.
Dr Kizza Besigye was jointly charged with the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, MP Kawempe Division South Mubaraka Munyagwa, FDC secretary for mobilisation Ms Igrid Turinawe, Rukungiri municipality MP Mr Roland Mugume Kaginda and Democratic Party Imam Makumbi.
According to the state, the accused persons incited the public on July I4, 2012 at Kabale stadium where four policemen were injured and four police cars vandalized.
Besigye who was on Monday last week expected to re-appear before the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court for the second time in two weeks ever since he was charged afresh with treason offenses did not show up.
Principal State Attorney Lino Anguzu told court presided over by Chief Magistrate James Ereemye that Besigye could not be brought to court due to security fears.
The case was adjourned to June 15 when the magistrate will give his ruling on whether to mention Besigye’s case in Luzira prison or in Court.
