Magistrate visits Besigye in Luzira, journalists denied entry


Nakawa District Coordination Committee (DCC), the framework of institutions in the Criminal justice system, this Thursday morning visited Dr.Kiiza Besigye the former presidential candidate of FDC in Luzira Prison

This visit is meant to assess the detention and remand standards of suspects and accused persons, like Dr Kiiza Besigye who had continuously complained about his health and other conditions in the prison.

The Nakawa DCC is chaired by the Nakawa Chief Magistrate, James Ereemye Mawanda Jumire is to visit other Police detention facilities and the Naguru Remand Centre, among others.

Besigye who was meant to appear before High Court in Nakawa on July 06 for his bail application hearing was extended to Monday July 11 following the Eid day celebrations.

He had written to the court seeking to be released from Luzira prisons where he is imprisoned on treason charges.

Among the people other people who are there is the Kampala Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago and the Kira Municipality MP FDC party spokes person Hon. Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda.

However, Journalists have been denied entry in the prison.
