South Sudan rebel General Peter Gatdet Yak has disowned former ally Gabriel Changson Chang the provisional chairman of Federal Democratic Party (FDP).
Last week, the rebel group said Gen Gatdet, previously named as top commander of their armed wing, the South Sudan Armed Forces (SSAF) had left the group.
General Gatdet and Changson were formerly members of SPLM-IO under Riek Machar before breaking away ahead of the signing of the Addis Ababa peace deal in August 2015.
In a release, the group said General Gatdet formed his own group called the “National Defence Alliance (NDA) “without consulting other leaders of FDP/SSAF (both political & military).”
In an email to Insider on Friday, Gatdet said Changson was deliberately spreading false information against him.
“I and Changson have not formed any party nor movement,” refuting allegations that he was making all the decisions alone.
“I Gen. Peter Gatdet Yak, my difference with Dr. Riek Machar was not the leadership or greed but rather the Arusha SPLM Reunification peace deal.”
He asked the South Sudanese Communities either to agree with Changson or dismiss him from claiming leadership of FDP.
“You ask Changson, is he capable to lead? Would he bring the real change?”
Changson not only assumed leadership but also appointed James Ruach Dual as USA Representative, Changkuoth Jiath Tot as Canada Representative and Dhil Gai Tutdeal as Australia Representative.
Gen Gatdet says he refused to be apart of the peace signed by two-SPLMs factions because the Juba regime only needs military change.
He said for example, Bri. Gen. Mabiel was killed a week ago for soliciting money and mobilising soldiers to go to Juba with the disgruntled politicians that is part of Gathoth Gatkuoth group.
