As the countdown to the crucial AFCON 2017 qualifier match between The Uganda Cranes and Comoros continues, Rt Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, the Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda has called upon Ugandans to come out in large numbers to support the team on September 4th.
This was after a brief meeting in which the Speaker hosted and interacted with the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo and Mr. Justus Mugisha the 1st FIFA Vice President in her offices at the Parliament.
Uganda hosts Comoros at Mandela National stadium Namboole a tie that Cranes needs to win to break a 38 year old jinx of not featuring at Africa’s biggest footballing show piece.
‘I call upon all Ugandans to join in the campaign and support our national team ‘The Cranes’ as they have always done. We have a very important game against Comoros on September 4 and this is like last passport to the finals of Africa. Mujje Tulumbe,” asserted the Speaker.
After the meeting FUFA President was full of praise for the Speaker whom she thanked for the opportunity to host them and listen to their views.
“We are so grateful to the Rt Honourable Speaker for accepting to meet us. We have talked to her about the upcoming AFCON qualifier game and its great importance to Uganda as a country but most importantly she has offered to talk about the general situation of sports in the country as a whole and what the parliament can do about it. We are going to use the opportunity to talk about the old and archaic sports law and improved government funding of sports,” said Mr. Magogo.
Hon Denis Obua who is the captain of the Uganda Parliamentary football team also attended the meeting.
